Although
we may offer many of the same services as a commercial bank,
a credit union is structured very differently. A credit
union is a not-for-profit financial
cooperative owned by
its members. Surplus earnings are returned
to the members in the form of higher
savings rates, lower loan rates
and low or no fee products and
services. Credit unions are democratically
run by a volunteer Board
of Directors made
up of, and voted on by the membership. The Board of
Directors establishes credit union policy and advises on
the day-to-day operation of the credit union.
